Shamkir

Almost one and a half thousand years ago on the coast of the Big Shamkir River, the city of Shamkir was based. There was« beautiful feudal castle with towers and bastions. Ruins of ancient fortresses of XVII century are kept in vicinities of the present Shamkir. In Middle Ages many dealers and travelers came there, as the small town was rich and promised good bargains to overseas merchants.

Many tourists come here from Ganja for a sightseeing tour.

Some people stay here for several days in private apartments and in the houses of local residents. Before the revolution there existed the German settlement Annenfelde, the memory of which has been kept till today in straight lines of "European" streets and a church, as well. Numerous lovers of refined cuisine frequently gathered in Shamkir restaurants for long feasts, as the food here is very tasty.
