Tovuz
The western area of Azerbaijan, bordering to Georgia and Armenia. The territory
of district is included into the river basin of the Kura River. Climate is dry,
subtropical. There are many springs, small and medium rivers there.
Hillsides became overgrown with woods. Tourists come here not only in searches
of natural beauty, but also to hunt wild ducks, hares and foxes. Lovers of natural
mountain honey can always find this valuable product at a local bee-keeper.
In this district, named after the Turk tribes of "oguz", interest-ing
architectural-historical monuments have been kept: bridge of X century, an ancient
water-pipe, the mausoleum of XVII century, a mosque, ruins of fortresses and
tower Kor-ogly of VII century. Archeologists have found out traces of people
of Stone and Bronze Ages. Local" residents till now find on a place of
ancient burial places giant bones, which could belong to missed people of mysterious
giants. National dishes from a boiled and fried fish are essential attributes
of meal, which is rather refined.
