Breznice
It was established in the first half of the 13th century - this early period
of the castle history is associated with one of the oldest Czech Families, the
Family of Buzic, whose origin has been derived from the legendary Bivoj. In
the 16th - 17th century, during the lifetime of Jin Loksan from Loksany, the
original Gothic fortress was rebuilt and turned into a Renaissance castle. In
1558, the Loksans' library came into being, which is now considered the oldest
well-preserved castle library of the Renaissance times in Bohemia. In 1623,
Pribikjenisek from Ujezd became a new owner of this castle. Those days, an early
- Baroque Chapel of Virgin Mary was built, projected by Carlo Lurago. In 1728
- 1872, the castle was a property of the Krakovsky Family from Kolovraty; the
last private owners of the estate became the Palffys' from Erdod.
The exposition of Breznice presents the whole history of the site by means
of the great collection funds gathered by its prominent owners. Especially the
collection of cutting weapons and firearms is regarded as one of the most outstanding
ones in Central Bohemia. The Renaissance casde of Breznice, surrounded by the
bastions on one side and by the English garden on the other, became a natural
dominant of the whole town.
