Zlin
Located on the boundary of the Wallachia and Moravian Slovakia regions, the
city of Zlin's greatest attraction is its remarkable architecture. The Functionalist
architecture of Zlin, with works by noted architects such as J. Kotera, F. L.
Gahura, V. Karffk, and M. Lorenc, is a European original. The style was created
during the height of fame of the Bafa footwear factories and featured bare red
brick, steel windows, flat roofs, and reinforced concrete frames. The most famous
Zlin Functionalist building is No. 21, the Bata Administration Building - the
so-calied “Skyscraper of Zlin.” No. 21 was one of the first high-rise structures
in Europe. The TomaS Bafa Villa is another important work. The surrounding areas
of Zlin are a paradise for sports enthusiasts (especially golfers and cyclists),
history buffs (the Lesna Chateau and Maienovice Castle), and for children (the
Zlin Zoo in Lesna and the Bafa Canal).Ostrava is the capital and seat of the
Moravian-Silesian Region. The town was founded in the 13th century on the “Amber”
merchant trail running from the Baltic Sea through Central Europe, and down
to the Mediterranean . Sea. An excellent position near the Polish and Slovak
borders, unique technical landmarks and urban planning, an enormous historical
and cultural heritage in the surrounding areas, and fine sports and recreational
possibilities in many facilities and in the nearby mountains have provided Ostrava
with all of the conditions necessary for strong tourism industry development. No
