Posta Fibreno
The natural reserve of lake Posta Fibreno is one of the most beautiful and
characteristic natural oases in Central Italy. The lake and the area where the
Fibreno river flows has been a "Natural Reserve" since 1983. In the
lake's icy crystal-clear waters, which come from the nearby mountains of the
Natural Park of Abruzzo, there is a "floating island" formed by a
mass of roots, strings, peat and seaweed. This island, already mentioned by
Plinio the Old, 2,000 years ago, can also be seen while walking along a path
called "Puzzillo", one of the four paths which allows you to fully
appreciate the beauty of this wild area. The PASTENA CAVES
are set at the foot of a karst valley and are divided in two: the active one is
2,217 metres long and the fossil one is 880 metres long. Its rocks are from 50
to 80 million years old. Inside the caves you can admire the "Wonder Hall",
the "Weeping Willow Hall" and the "Calvary Hall".
THE WINE ROUTE, FLAVOURS FROM THE PAST
A journey among forgotten flavours and smells where the old-times taste of
typical rural dishes can be appreciated on the tables of many typical restaurants,
accompanied by our renowned DOC wines, such as Cesanese and Passerina of Piglio,
the Cabernet of Atina and Torre Ercolana of Anagni.
ACUTO's economy is mostly based on farming and livestock
rearing. Acuto is one of the first pro-ducers of the Cesanese wine.
PIGLIO is a medieval town with remains of an ancient castle;
it is famous for its healthy air and famous wines: the Red Cesanese and White
Passerina.
ATINA, set in the middle of the Comino Valley, is very ancient
as shown by its polygonal walls dating back to the V-Vlth-century ВС, the ducal
palace and the 18th-century cathedral of S. Maria. The main dish of this town
is a delicious "pasta e fagioli", made with the prestigious beans
called "cannellini". Another typical produce is the DOC wine Cabernet.
