The archaeological discoveries, the multimedia museum and the initiative of
improving of the Domus Romana and of the Thermal bath, discovered in the cellar
of Valentini Palace, have been opened on December 20th. We are talking about
a remarkable area come to light during deep restructuring works of the Seventeenth
century Palace, head office of the Province of Rome, deliberated by the President
Gasbarra.
The archaeological site inaugurated also thanks the archaeological Superintendece
of Rome head by prof. Angelo Bottini, is divided into two big areas (1.800 square
metres) and its completely architectural boundless.
The multimedia museum, the first and the one in Italy, is the synthesis between
history and tecnology. A careful research above the finds, the institutions,
above the urban planning of Rome between the Second and the Fourth century a.C.,
that relives through the use of the computer graphic, thanks which it’s possibile
complete a charming trip into the roots of our civilization, walking on the
polychrome mosaico of the Villas of powerful senators, so rich as can built
out-and-out private thermal bath two steps away from the Roman Forum.
The Palace
Intended by Card. Michele Bonelli (1541 - 1598), nephew of Pope Pio V Ghislieri,
it has been realised at the place or in addiction of a previous palace of the
mid-sixteenth century, belong to Pompeo Zam- beccari and than passed to Giacomo
Boncompagni, who sold the palace to Bonelli in 1585. The cardinal gave the charge
to the Domenican architect D. Paganelli, but the constructions site was carried
on by F. Peparelli. The project was interrupted by the death of Bonelli: along
the Seventeenth century, had place restructurings and enlargements on the purchase
of Card. Carlo Bonelli and Michele Ferdinando Monelli. In 1752 the palace was
sold by Marco Antonio Bonelli to Card. Giuseppe Spinelli, nephew and executor
of Vincenzo Valentini, banker and general Consul of Prussian Majesty, who promoted
a number of restore and embelli-shment interventions. He also com-pleted the
side facing the Traiana Column (architects F. Navone and G. B.Benedetti). Between

The projects about the Domus, realized by Piero Angela, avails itself of bright
effects and of a descripting commentary, and lets the visitor quickly understand
the meaning of this find, as well as “relive” the ancient Rome sites through
suggestive virtual recostructions.
It will be possible go virtually into the Rome of Adriano, but staying inside
a real archaeological area of 1.800 square metres, that reserves on-going suprises,
connected at the Imperial Forum.
The route includes two iter the first one is dedicated at the principal space,
