Changji
Located north of Tianshan Mountains, Changji is the capital city of Changji
Hui Autonomous Prefecture. With trees and flowers covering the neat streets
in the downtown area, Changji is a commercial city with a flourishing economy.
Most of the residents are Hui people characterized by a simple lifestyle. Major
tourist destinations of the prefecture are the ancient cities of Changji and
Beiting, Miao'er Gully Pastures, the Heavenly Lake Scenic Area, Bogda Mountain
and Cliff Carvings at Shimenzi. Kangjia.
The Ancient City of Beiting
The Ancient City of Beiting is located in Beiting Township, 12 km north of
Jimsar. It is the key relic site under state protection in north Xinjiang. First
built in the Eastern Han Dynasty in the first century.
The Heavenly Lake Scenic Area
The Heavenly Lake Scenic Area is located in Fukang City of Changji Hui Autonomous
Prefecture, 110 km east of Urumqi. Covering an area of 4.9 square km, it includes
such tourist attractions as the Stone Gate, the Dragon Pool, Three Rocks Topping
the Sky, the Magic Needles, and the Suspended Springs and Waterfalls.
