Yining
Yining in west Xinjiang is named after the Hi River. The city is blessed with
colorful ethic culture as well as fascinating natural beauty. Major tourist
destinations are Guozigou Scenic Area, Gongnas Grassland and the Ancient City
of Huiyuan.
The General's Mansion
The General's Mansion is located on the northern bank of the Hi River, 10 km
southeast of Huocheng County and 30 km from Yining City. During the Qing Dynasty,
Emperor Qianlong strengthened his rule over Hi region by granting the title
of general and establishing eight cities in its surrounding areas, with Huiyuan
as the military and political center, where the general's mansion was located.
For the next 150 years, the region grew prosperous with more and more merchants
coming over.
Id Kah Mosque
First built in 846 in the Islamic calendar or A.D. 1426, Id Kah Mosque is an
ancient Islamic building in downtown Kashi. It is the largest mosque in China.
The most important part of the mosque is the prayer hall. With a floor area
of 2.600 square meters, it has a seating capacity of 4,000.
Tacheng
Tacheng in northwest Xinjiang is a city with a long history. It used to be
an important commercial town on the ancient Silk Road. Its main tourist attractions
are the Badanxintz Nature Reserve, Sarkule Lake and Baketu Port.
Baketu Port
Baketu Port, 17 km from Tacheng, was built on vast piece of open grassland.
Well equipped with port facilities, it handles floods of travelers and motor
vehicles durine workine hours.
