Kashi
Kashi, known as Shule in ancient times, is located in southwest Xinjiang. It is
the political and economic center of south Xinjiang, as well as the meeting point
of the north and Mftuth routes of the ancient Silk Road. The city is famous for
carvings, handicrafts and ethnic singing and dancing. Main tourist attractions
include Id Kah Mosque, Apak Hoja Tomb, Kashigele Mausoleum of Mohammed and the
Bazaar.
Apak Hoja Tomb
Apak Hoja Tomb, a typical tomb built in Uygur style, is located in Haohan Village
5 km northeast of Kashi. It is said to be the tomb of the Fragrant Lady. The lady,
who could give off a fragrant aroma, was one of the favorite concubines of Emperor
Qianlong he Qing Dynasty. In fact, it is the yard of Yu Sufu Hoja, a famous Islam
missionary, and his descendents. The tomb only contains Fragrant Lady's personal
effects.
The Bazaar
The Bazaar is located northeast of Kashi city propel and is the largest rural
market in Xinjiang. It is said that the brisk market dates back to 2,000 years
ago. It is a place where tourists can have a most intimate experience of life
in Kashi.
