Arenal Volcano National Park & Hot Springs at Tabacon

Observe one of the world’s most active volcanoes. After sleeping quietly for 400 years, the Arenal erupted with tremendous force in 1968. It continues to erupt daily but in a smaller scale. See, on clear days, the lava eruptions that during the evening look like an impressive fireworks display. Visit also Tabacon Hot Springs with 5 swimming pools, nice gardens and small rivers with waterfalls.

Poas Volcano National Park & Sarchi Handicrafts City

Drive through urban and rural areas. At 2.700m (8910ft) above sea level admire the Poas Volcano known to be the largest geyser in the world. Walk to Lagoon Botos, a former crater with exuberant volcanic vegetation. Later, through coffee and sugar cane plantations arrive in Sarchi, famous for its multi-coloured wooden crafts and the large exhibition of precious souvenirs.

Drive from San Jose through Atenas to Tarcoles to visit the Carara National Park, a transitional forest with 4.700 hectares (11.615 acres). You will probably see parrots, partridges, toucans, howler and white-faced monkeys, coatis among many others. Giant trees will care for pleasant shadow. Later, make a stop and enjoy one of the beautiful Pacific Beaches.

Rain Forest Aerial Tram

Ride through the Cloud Forest National Park Braulio Carrillo to enjoy the ride in the gondolas of the aerial tram. Above the rain forest admire the unique experience of observing the canopy of the forest. Take a close look at the most exotic plants that grow on the top of the giant trees.

Poas Volcano - La Paz Waterfall & Sarapiqui River

Drive through dairy farms and flower plantations to the National Park Poas Volcano known to be the largest geyser in the world. Later, enjoy the view of the famous La Paz Waterfall. At Puerto Viejo, make a boat tour on the river Sarapiqui to admire the exuberant vegetation.

At the plantation see how coffee is produced, roasted and then exported. Learn about the history and processing of coffee. Later, see the actual factory in operation and visit the tasting room.

Afterwards, drive to the famous Butterfly Farm, one of the largest commercial farms in the Western Hemisphere. Within a beautiful enclosed garden, observe the rearing of live butterflies for export.

San Jose City Tour

San Jose the capital city is a lively cosmopolitan city and has a lot to offer. This tour will take you through residential and business areas. You will see the Cathedral, the main Post Office Building among others and visit the National Theater, a masterpiece with influence of the Renaissance style built at the end of the last century and one of the main museums: the old Bella Vista fortress, where the abolition of the army took place in 1948, converted into the National Museum, the Gold or the Jade Museum and see the University of Costa Rica, the largest in the country with more than 35000 students.

Irazu Volcano National Park - Orosi Valley & Lankester Garden

Drive through dairy farms and vegetable plantations. Enjoy the view of the crater of the Irazd Volcano, the highest in the country with its moonlike landscape. Later, in Cartago, the ancient capital, see the ruins of the old cathedral and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, Patron Saint of Costa Rica. Continue to the see the Orosi Valley and the colonial church of Orosi. Admire also the Lankester Garden: more than 800 different orchids, the largest exhibition in Central America.

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and National Park

Ride across the Central Valley and descend the San Ramon Mountains. Continue through the beautiful pampa until Liberia. Ascend through a secondary road. Visit the Rincon de la Vieja National Park that with its 14.084ha (35.21 Oacres) comprises an active strata Volcano. Nature is diverse with giant trees and offers more than 257 bird species. See an area of intense volcanic activity known as Las Pailas, which covers approximately 50ha, and consists of hot springs and solfataric lakes. Or in “Azufrales” enjoy small pools with hot springs and also a site with refreshing waterfalls. Visit also the incredible red deep hole at river Blanco.

Monteverde Cloud Forest

Monteverde is a 10.000ha (24.710 acres) private preserve, which is always cold and humid thanks to the rain clouds coming from the Caribbean. Exuberant forest area with trees covered with moss and ferns that protect the home of the red and blue frogs and the resplendent quetzal (one of the 400 kinds of birds to be found here). In the 1950’s, a small group of farmers that belong to the “Quaker” community founded Monteverde, which is today a charming little town with a friendly atmosphere. Select among a visit to the Butterfly Garden, or the Serpentarium or the exotic Orchids Garden.

Corcovado National Park

This 41.788ha (103.258 acres) National Park is a virgin forest where you will admire the incredible flora and fauna. The wildlife of Corcovado is as rich and varied as its plant life, which is also protected by a freshwater herbaceous swamp known as Corcovado Lagoon, which covers over 1000ha thick with shrubs and grasses. There are 8 mam habitats, more than 500 species of trees, 140 of mammals and 367 of birds in this Park. It protects the jaguar (panther) and the largest population of scarlet macaws (ara macao) in the country. It is considered an excellent refuge for wildlife.
