Golden Ring of Russia
The most popular t ourist routes in Russia are the cruises along the Volga
and the journeys along the Golden Ring. We have a unique opportunity to combine
both. Each of, the towns of the Golden Ring has preserved the amazing atmosphere
of old-time. You will feel it walking the homey streets, admiring the picturesque
outlines of the churches against the gardens and parks. The appearance of mighty
walls of the medieval fortresses on the river-banks makes an especial impression.
The first city we pass through is Kalyazin. Surely you have noticed from afar
the elegant bell-tower rising straight out of the water. It is the only remembrance
of the former majesty and glorious architecture of the city. Still there are
several preserved streets, three churches, monastic islands and the bell-tower
of the Nikolaevsky Cathedral.
The Volga makes a sharp sweep, and the delightful view of Uglich, the city
with a history of more than a thousand years, greets us.
A majestic white-stone building in the midst of the dense greenery is a Spaso-Preobrazhensky
Cathedral; the splendid Church of the John Precursor’s Nativity is seen, and
near there are purpling foresides of the Prince Dmitry-On-blood Church crowned
by the blue domes with golden stars. This is the most famous cathedral of Uglich.
According to the legend, exactly here in 16th century the historic drama took
place when the inheritor of Ivan the Terrible, the little prince Dmitry, was
killed.
In the city we will see the Assumption Church. For its beauty it is called
«Divnaya» («Delightful»).We will visit the Voskresensky Monastery as well. In
the Way of Life Museum it’s possible to get acquaintance with everyday’s life
of the citizens of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries. Among the unusual
museums there is the Museum of «History of Russian Vodka». Beside an interesting
exposition there is a tasting room where you may buy genuine Russian vodka of
the best Russian trademarks.
