Tourism in Russia > Western Siberia

Western Siberia

The nature of the region is various and marvellous. Picturesque sceneries, mountain and forest landscapes, mysterious caves make unforgettable impressions. The river cruises let you enjoy all the beauty of the wild nature staying in comfort: from the board of oil-ship, yacht or sailing catamaran. It doesn’t matter what kind of transportation is chosen - whether sailing or walking, bicycling or riding, skiing or sledging, or using snowmobile - the acquaintance with the nature of Ural and Western Siberia will leave nobody indifferent.

Here there are relict furtrees, emerald cedars and high pinetrees used for shipbuilding. Taiga woods and pine forests are the pride of the region. The pine-trees, which trunk is almost 1,5 m in diameter, grow here.

There is a plenty of mushrooms and berries in the forests of the Tomsk region, such as the raspberry, the blueberry, the bilberry, and on the marsh tussocks under the feet the cranberry, the cloudberry and the cowberry are spread out.

Not far from Tyumen there is a genuine oasis where the thermal mineral water source with temperature being about +45° C, springs out of the ground.

You may also visit an old arboretum in Talitsy, and nearby the Mariinsk city you may see such a natural phenomenon as black (or «stony») birches.

There are numerous delightful lakes at the eastern foothills of the Urals. The Turgoyak lake is called « the younger brother» of Baikal; its water is as pure and transparent as in Baikal, and even twenty meters deep bottom is seen.

But this land is famous not only for its antiquities. Nature has enriched this region with inimitative rare beauty. Here there are formidable rocks and majestic mountains covered with forests, pure lakes and impetuous rivlrs with picturesque shoals, mysterious caves and various flora and fauna. Ecological tours will let you make closer acquaintance with natural sights. Numerous reserve areas and national parks are established here to preserve the virgin beauty of wild nature of the region.

They are especially important here as the region of Ural and Western Siberia has been the main industrial center of Russia at all times. The land preserves countless wealth, such as precious metals, semi-precious stones, minerals, natural gas and oil called «the black gold».

The most interesting excursions acquaint the tourists with the history of the region. It is possible to visit ancient archaeological digs, old Siberian and Ural cities and their museums.

Hunters for active tourism will find here unexplored peaks, mountain-skiing resorts, hang-gliding and balloon flying, river rafting, horse riding and bicycling, winter usual and dog-drawn sledging...

People of various nationalities live in this region; among them there are the Russians, the Tatars, the Bashkirs, the Udmurts, the Mari, the Khanty, the Komi, the Mansi, the Nenets and others. The acquaintance with their traditions, customs and way of life is overwhelmingly interesting. That is why the ethnographic tourism is very popular here. You will certainly feel the hospitality wherever you go whether it is a modern or a log house (called «izba»), a yurt or a tent house (called «chum»).

The bright photos and original souvenirs will be reminding you about this exciting journey for a long-long time.
