Faber-Castell experience
The marriage between Baroness Ottilie von Faber and Count Alexander zu Castell-Riidenhausen
in 1898 was also the birth of a new line of nobility that has long been a hallmark
for quality products, known throughout the world: Faber-Castell. The castle
belonging to the counts von Faber-Castell in Stein near Nuremberg illustrates
the liaison between the spirit of industrial progress and the traditional values
of a long-established aristocratic family.
The “old lead factory” museum on the other side of the river is just waiting
to be explored. On a tour of two floors of this former factory, visitors experience
the largely manual production of pencil leads in the 19th and early 20th century.
Numerous authentic photographs and other images, texts, and sound recordings
document how strenuous and dirty the work was.
Besides the castle and the museum, we are happy to show you our modern production
lines for wood-cased pencils.
