1st Arsenalskaya street

1st Arsenalskaya street (Pesterevskaya, Uritsky str.)

One of Irkutsk’s oldest central business streets. Originally it was called 1st Arsenalskaya. Soldiers’ families lived here in small wooden houses. Then it was renamed in honor of a famous citizen, top guild merchant Nikolay Pesterev. Most parts of the street were destroyed by the Fire of 1879. It took 25 years to reconstruct the street: residents built new brick houses and reconstructed those that survived. In 1920 Pesterevskaya street was renamed M.S.Uritsky street. There are 16 historical and architectural monuments of national importance here. The whole street is an architectural monument and is protected by regional laws. Crossing of street Uritsky and K.Marx's street
