Alexander and Mary College (Baikal State University of Economics and Law)
This building was constructed in 1894-1895 by the Irkutsk architect Vladimir Rassushin
for the 5-year City College of Alexander and Mary. The name of Alexander and Mary
was given to the college when Russia celebrated the 25th anniversary of Emperor
Alexander III and Maria Fiodorovna’s marriage. After the revolution the building
housed various Soviet institutions. In 1930, two more floors were added and the
Institute of Finance and Economy was opened here. In 1993 the Institute obtained
academy status. In 2002 the Irkutsk State Academy of Economy was renamed the Baikal
State University of Economics and Law. Lenin's street, 11
