The building of a man's gymnasium, later called Irkutsk regional art museum
of V.P.Sukachyov
The building was constructed in 1905-1907 under the project of architect D.R.Magidey.
The Irkutsk man's gymnasium was established in 1805 on the basis of the Main
national school. Its directors were the outstanding historian of Siberia P.A.Slovtsov,
and naturalist S.S.Schukin. The well - known researcher of Priamurie (The area
of Amur river) R. K. Маак, scientists-historians I.V.Scheglov and B.G.Kubalov
were teaching here. The future famous writers: N.S.Schukin, I.T.Kalashnikov,
V.P.Parshin, V.M.Mikheev, I.V.Fedorov-Omulevsky, scientists: M.K.Azadovsky,
A.P.Fedchenko, G.A.Stukov, F.A.Kudryavtsev, artist M.I.Peskov, the agriculturist,
the founder of agrochemical school, the academician, the Hero of Socialist Work,
the winner of the State award D.N.Pryanishnikov, the traveler and scientist
A.P.Fedchenko, the statistican, the writer, the regional specialist, the governor
has put ESDRGS (Eastern Siberia Department of Russian Geographic Society), the
minister of the foodstuff and supply of Temporary Siberian government I.I. Serebrennikov
and many others were graduated from this gymnasium.
Since 1975 Irkutsk regional art museum, one of the largest in region, is based
in this building. The basis of this museum was made by a collection of pictures,
icons and other works of art, presented by the Irkutsk merchant,mayor V.P.Sukachyov.
