Kazan Church of Saint Virgin

The monument of history and architecture of republic significance of XVII century was removed from the village Ilimsk of Bratsk district of Irkutsk region in 1970. The author of restoration project is the architect G.G. Oranskaya.

7n 1985 the restoration was finished. The iconostasis and the apse were restored by the painters-restorers of Irkutsk under the guidance of S.M. Frolov. In 1991 the church was sanctified by the bishop of Irkutsk and Angarsk Vadim.

The church of Ilimsk Gate in the name of Kazan Saint Virgin was built in 1667 by the] cathedral priest Peter Maximov. The church is wooden, one-altar, with big “barrel”, engirded with “lemekh”, with one cupola.

The church, the temple is the sanctified building for the divine service. Usually the main entry into the church is from the West, the apse is oriented to the East. The chuxh is divided into three parts: the anteroom, the middle part, the apse.

The anteroom is the entry part of the church. The main feature of middle part is the iconostasis. The middle door of the iconostasis is the Holy Gates. On the Holy Gates are the images of the Lady Day of Saint Virgin and of four evangelists: St. Matthew, St Mark, St Luke and St. John. The image of the Sivour is on the right side from the Holy Gates, on the left side is the image of the God's Mother.

The apse is the principal part of the church personifying the heaven. The word “the! apse” means “elevated credence”.
