Municipal duma building
Municipal duma building, today – the City administration of Irkutsk
In the beginning of XIX century there were two houses on this place, which in
1806-1811 were connected by merchant P.Ja.Soldatov in one and were built partially
on by the second floor. In 1820-1822 the building was got by a city society and
reconstructed for the governor general of Eastern Siberia. As the residence of
governor generals the manor was used within fifteen years. Later the state chamber
and a military-district staff took place here. In 1876 the municipal duma for
the first time had moved here. In 1892-1895 the building had been reconstructed
by architect V.A.Rassushin. In a new premise on March, 25th, 1895 the first session
of the Duma had been taken place. On the second floor in the central part of a
building there was a spacious hall in which working and municipal duma ceremonial
meetings were held. Except official actions concerts were held, performances were
put, balls and dances were arranged here. In 1911, there were based the Irkutsk
scientific archival commission in a Duma building. It collected and put in order
archival documents, drew the conclusion about value of architectural and historical
monuments and promoted their protection, organized exhibitions of subjects of
an antiquity. In 1932-1934 the house was built on by two floors under the project
