Polish Roman Catholic Church

(Organ Hall of Irkutsk Philharmonic)

The first wooden Roman Catholic Church was built in Irkutsk in classical style in 1825 on donations from local Catholic community. The Great Fire of Irkutsk of 1879 destroyed the wooden church and all Catholic communities of Russia raised funds to build a new brick one. Local architect Jan Tamulevich designed the new church in neo-gothic style, while exiled polish artist Voizech Kopersky drafted its interior decorations.
In 1978 Wolfgang Schukke’s company made an organ in Germany and after long restoration work, an organ hall was opened in the former church building.
