Russian-Asian Bank

The building was constructed in 1912 in a modernist style by the Irkutsk architect V.I. Kolyanovskii for the Irkutsk branch of the Russian-Asian bank, one of the largest banks in pre-revolutionary Russia. The bank financed gold mining, coal-mining, flour-grinding, sawing, tanning industries, grain trade and transport development. In 1914 a conference on reclamation of the Northern trade route was held here. Irkutsk broker’s board committee meetings were held here in from 1911 till 1917. At the end of 1917 - beginning of 1918 the building housed the Regional Revolutionary and Military Committee, then in 1918 Alexander Kolchak’s Government and later, the Soviet government.
