The profitable house of the engineer of means of communication of I.I. Nikitin,
hotel "Grand Hotel"
This mansion was built in 1896 for the top guild merchant Alexandr Vtorov,
the richest Siberian merchant who sold textile goods all over Russia. The building
represents a Pseudo-Russian style of architecture. The merchant’s apartments
and warehouses were located here. In October 1917 the first all-Siberian Soviets
Congress took place in the house. During the Soviet period, the mansion was
nationalized and the Museum of Revolution resided here. Then, in 1927, it headquartered
the Regional Consumers’ Union. Since 1937 it’s housed the Palace of Children’s
Creative Work (during the Soviet period – Palace of Pioneers). In 1963 a swimming
pool was added and the building was remodeled.
