Festivals in Moscow

The city is the venue for major international festivals, forums, exhibitions and sports events - the Moscow International Film Festival, the Chekhov International Theater Festival, Art-Moskva and Arkh-Moskva exhibitions, photography exhibitions, the Kremlin Cup in tennis and the Moscow International Motor Show. The Hockey World Championships are due to take place in Moscow in 2016, and in 2018, the capital, together with other Russian cities, will host the soccer World Cup.

You can take a stroll along the streets and through the neighborhoods of Moscow - they each retain their own unique architectural style and historical era. The quiet back streets of Kitai-Gorod have preserved their medieval names and layouts. Its reputation as the “gold- en-domed” capital owes much to one of the ancient districts in the center of Moscow - the Zamoskvorechye neighborhood, traditionally being home to merchants and righteous people, who contributed money in building churches. In those days people used to say that there were “40 times 40” churches in the capital, in other words, lots of them.
