Putrajaya

Just 25km out of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya is the forerunner of future Malaysian city. Sprawling over 4,932 hectares, Putrajaya has been planned and developed as Malaysia's "Garden City, Intelligent City". When fully completed, it will be a city of the 21st century totally equipped with the latest infrastructure and high-technology facilities. But this new world efficiency and sophistication will not sacrifice Malaysia's heritage. With at least a third of the area maintained green with lush gardens, parks, lakes and a wetland area, Putrajaya actually embodies the country's green heritage and allows, its Malaysian soul and spirit come alive through the city's design, architecture and mood.

Indeed, Putrajaya can be aptly described as a futuristic Malaysian heritage.

In its strategic location at the hub of the country's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), this Intelligent City will harness new and emerging muifimedia technologies and state-of-theart infrastructure to catapult Malaysia into a leadership role in the Information Age. And in this Garden City, numerous parks and gardens will epitomise the concept of a city in a garden The development of Putrajaya is still ongoing and is expected to finish only in 2010 when it will be fully operational as Malaysia's ¦¦administrative capital. Boasting of the ideal “live-work" environment, its residency is expected to be around 350,000.

Putrajaya design and amenities will be international class but its identity will remain totally Malaysian.

Malaysia the Putrajaya development

Putrajaya is divided into two major areas: the Core Area (five precincts comprising the Government, Mixed Development, Civic & Cultural, Commercial and Sports & Recreation Precincts) and the Periphery Area (comprising residential areas, parks and public amenities) which are separated by a large man-made lake.

Malaysian designs that include Fauna, Obor, Flora and Wau provide a warm and eye-catching welcome to all. These streetlight designs are just some of the tying elements of the totally integrated development of Putrajaya.

The "Fauna" design is an abstract representation of the eyes oi an insect, a subtle reminder to visitors of Putrajaya's Tamcfr Wetland, a major tourist attraction.

The twisted arms of the street light appears to be in motior as one drives along the road while the use of reflector plate represents the wing of a beetle in motion. Another design or torch is symbolic of the nation's history, heritage ant values.

Meanwhile the Flora lighting emphasises the garden cit concept with its series of petal formations which are ligt reflectors. The "Wau" (Kite) aesign is another uniquely Malaysia art form that is synonymous with the nation's arts and cral Through the Wau design, a popular Malaysian icon has bee transformed and blended into the cityscape of a futuristic cites.

Places of interest in Putrajaya

Around the world, planned cities or relocated capitals are not uncommon, But Putrajaya is unique and unforgerfaDie c-ecause of its development philosophy and design. This philosophy s guided by the fundamental trinity of human relctionshipbetween man and his creator, between man and his feitew man.

Essentially, the development and design of Putrajaya is based on rre tieme of a garden city that is in harmony with its natural environment yet it is modern, futuristic, unique and very MalcysiaR. Due to its seat within the Multimedia Super Corridor, Putrajaya wi* piay a crucial role in the country's quest to be the centre of nformaticn Technology in the region. However, its Malaysian charac*er and identity will still feature prominently through its use of Moorish/ European architecture which is overlaid with Islamic end Malaysian elements.

Tourists will find it extremely easy to get around the citv in comfort due to its pedestrian streets, shaded footpaths and reliable public transportation. Support services like banks founst information centres, travel agencies, internet cafes and the post office will be centrally located. Accomodation will be varied to cater for all budgets and range from luxury hotels and service apartments to budget motels and camping sites.
