Moscow Subway
Some of the subway stations in Moscow can rightfully be called architectural
monuments. The Moscow subway system was first open in 1935.The station interiors
were designed by the city's best architects. The stations Kropotkinskaya, the
Red Gates, Sokolnikl, and Mayakovskaya were awarded prizes at the international
showcases in Paris, Brussels, and New York. Today the Moscow subway features
over 170 stations on 12 subway lines, totaling in length almost 280 kilometers
(174 miles).
