Red Square
The Red Square first appeared allheendof the 15th century. In old Russian
the word "red*(krasnaya) meant "beautiful*. The square was a place
where officials announced the most important government decrees and where the
tsars and church leaders addressed the people. Later the Red Square became the
place of military parades and large celebrations. Today it is also a place where
world-renowned opera singers and pop-stars give concerts.
