Tour to North Ossetia Alania
The Alagir community is considered to be the oldest in Ossetia. It also used
to be the most densely populated in its time, and our ancestors left quite a
lot of architectural and historical monuments, part of which hasn't been studied
up to now. The territory of the canyon is sure to attract the excursionists
and travellers'attention.
The trip's itinerary:
On our way from Vladikavkaz to Alagir, where the Trans-Caucasian highway begins,
we visit Khetag's holy grove — the most esteemed shrine in the plains of Ossetia.
A stop is made near the health resort "Tarn isk" in Nykhas canyon,
at the shrine of Nykhasy Uastyrdzhy (the pagan analogue of St. George in Orthodox
Christianity). Having passed the village of Unal we go up along a mountain path
to the old Ossetian villages Tsamad and Dagom. Then we'll go to the place of
the medieval Ossetian trial. Having come down to the village of Ursdon we'll
get acquainted with the medieval historical and archeological monuments, burial
vaults, shrines, cave fortresses. The village of Indzhynta with two towers and
very interesting burial vaults with painted facades is our next stop. After
the excursion we'll come down to the village of Zintsar, get on a bus and return
to Vladikavkaz.
