Troitse-Scanov convent
2 or 3 kilometers away from the convent there are caves where monks-hermits
lived in the past. The place is very pic-turesque and is situated near the mount
Plodskaya.
The inner microclimate of the caves is unique with its fre-shness and healing
air. The Scanov caves are much longer than Kievo-Pechorskaya Lavra’s underground
buildings.
Vadinskiy Svyato-Tikhvinskiy monastery
The convent is very famous and popular among people for its main Chudotvornaya
(miracle-working) icon of Tihvinskaya’s Virgin. There is also a unique museum,
which contains religious books, clothes, utensils, etc.
God’s Transfiguration Church
This church was built in Radishchevo Village for the donations of Grigory Ablyazov
- Alexander Radishchev’s great grand-father. Consecrated in 1736. The stone
church had a northward terrace named after the icon of Kazan Virgin, as well
as a canteen and a three-layer belfry. The modern iconostasis is a monument
of decorative applied arts of the 19th century. The church was restored in 1974-1977.
Since 1991 it has been in joint property of the Radishchev’s Museum and the
local orthodox community.
The Temple of Christ’s Birth (Christmas Temple)
This church was built in the village Rodishchevo. It was consecrated in 1736.
The iconostasis is a piece of decorative and applied art of the 19th century
and it was brought from the village Russkaya Pedlenka. The restoration was done
in 1974-1977.
The Solovtsovka Village
This village is situated 40 kilometer away from Penza. There is a Sergey Radonezhsky
Church where the ashes of the priest Ioann Olenevsky (the 19th cent.) found
ther eternal rest. Nearby there is a marvelous spring, which is believed to
help people become healthy.
