Don countryside

Cultural tourism in Russia > Rostov region > Don countryside

Don countryside

All the time Don Land was rich with it’s flora and fauna – deer, snakes, wolfs and foxes, jackals, bears. Forests were full of fruit and nut trees, berries, mushrooms. Still waters of Father Don were full of fish. Cossack Land – the main inhabitants of the region in the past were Cossacks – was rich and fertile. They used to call river Don – Father Don , and Don Steppes – Mother Steppe. That land was the future for their sons and grandsons.

Now Don flora and fauna grew scanty. But rostovites do care for their land that is why it is still famous for its fishing and hunting. Azov Sea, River Don, several artificial pools and lakes can be ideal places for fishing. Rostov region is famous for it’s hunting as well. Deer, wild boars, hare, fox and ducks
