The Czech Independence Day
A gala evening dedicated to the Czech Independence Day, the main state holiday,
when the day of formation of the independent Czechoslovakia is celebrated,
took place at the Ambassador Hotel on October, 26. Members of the St. Petersburg
Government, prominent figures in the fields of culture and arts of Russia,
representatives of the diplomatic corps were invited to take part in the celebration.
Nowadays the Czech Republic is a full-fledged member of the European Union,
having equal rights with the others, it is a country that seeks to establish
partnerships with all democratic states. Relationships with Russia are one of
the priorities forthe Republic.
The Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will visit the Czech Republic in the beginning
of December.There will be a unique cultural event besides political and business
negotiations.The exhibition of treasures from the Moscow Kremlin will be presented
in the Prague Castle.The exhibition will be opened by President Medvedev. The
Consul General of the Czech Republic in St. Petersburg Mr. Karel Haranza said
the following: "It is very important when countries cooperate in all spheres
— from politics to business, culture and education. Our Consulate seeks to support
business contacts, various joint Czech-Russian projects, presents the Czech
culture in every possible way and it certainly supports inbound tourism to the
Czech Republic". Next year the Consulate General of the Czech Republic
will present a lot of interesting things to the people of St. Petersburg: an
exhibition of the famous Czech glass, concerts of Czech musicians, Czech films
and interesting historical exhibitions. Concluding his speech, Karel Haranza
emphasized that the Consulate is open to cooperation, is ready to support projects
in various sectors: trade, industry, culture and education.
