Located in the city-centre, the first written documents relating to gorum Castle,
a structure which has classic characteristics of Seljuk architecture, date back
to 1571 BC. The structure has a square design and is constructed from stone
from the Roman and Byzantine periods. Four sides of the castle have one tower
each and there is a gate to the north. Inside the castle, there are forty- two
houses and a small mosque.
Iskilip Castle, dating back to the Ottoman Period, is built on a l00m-high
natural rock. Entry to the castle is by the gate to the south. At the bottom
of rock on which the castle was built there are many rock tombs from the Roman
Period.Osmancik (Kandiber) Castle is built on a natural rock to the north of
the Kizilirmak River.
It was inhabited by Seljuks. However because
made from Roman Rock Tombs it is assumed that
its foundation was in the Roman period. During
the Islamic era it was on the trade road from Istanbul
to Maya, generally known as the Silk Road.
gorum Clock Tower has a height of 7.5 m and
was built in 1894. There is an Ottoman marble
inscription over the arched gate opening southwards.
Sungurlu Clock Tower with a square prism body was built in 1891. The second
floor excepted, there are small arched windows on each floor. The highest floor
is made of cut stone and has a wooden tower with a circular clock face placed
on the bottom.
