Sharjah
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this magazine and to Sharjah. The
emirate has been championed by the worldwide tourism sector and celebrated as
the cultural capital of the Arab world. With massive tourism expansion and economic
development projects being undertaken, Sharjah is the perfect destination for
Ramadan celebrations and for exploring Islamic culture.
Visitors from all corners of the globe are fascinated by the emirate’s history,
its abundant tourist attractions and holiday options. Great successes at the
world's biggest tourism trade fairs have seen a special focus on Sharjah's numerous
cultural festivals and entertainment and sporting events.
Sharjah is a dynamic destination and the constant and flourishing cultural,
economic and social progress is closely linked to the tourism industry not just
attracting visitors from around the world in unprecedented numbers but also
hosting landmark economic events and art and culture festivals. The Sharjah
Commerce and Tourism Development Authority have been at the forefront of promoting
the emirate and encouraging development.
The most modern standards and latest technological advancements are readily
embraced to better provide for tourist and business visitors, but at no stage
does Sharjah forget its heritage. History and tradition are of central importance
to Sharjah and to its broad appeal. The committed joining of ancient and modern
is part of what makes Sharjah such an exciting and diverse destination, and
so perfect at this special time of year for celebrating faith, family and heritage.

Development Authority highlights the emirate as a unique tourist destination.
Future issues of the quarterly magazine will continue to tell Sharjah's magical
story, to explore its secrets and share its treasures.?
Great Support And Guidance For All Sharjah
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, has always given great
support and guidance to Sharjah and embarked on a tour of the emirate as part
of his keenness to reach out to the people.
From coast to coast, Sheikh Sultan's tour was aimed at i gathering first hand
knowledge about the living conditions of ] citizens and their distinctive needs.
The Ruler opened a number of service facilities I on the tour and inaugurated
four new Khor Fakkan government buildings, built at a cost of Dhs.29 million.
People took every opportunity to express their happiness over his visit.
They thanked him for his constant attention to the upgrading of regional services,
thus improving their living conditions. They also hailed Sharjah’s overall development
and said that the emirate’s achievements are a source Of pride for everyone.
Reflecting Sheikh Sultan’s desire to support young citizens in their careers,
His Highness pas issued directives to create 150 new jobs in various government
departments in the Eastern region of the emirate. Local citizens will be appointed
to fill the new posts to provide them with sources of income that will enable
them to set up their own lives after the completion of their education.
His Highness’ tour of Sharjah followed prestigious international visits; to
the British Library in London, one of the most important research centres in
the world; and to the Spanish city of Granada for the inauguration of Sharjah
Cultural Days there.
In May, His Highness received in Sharjah Dr Al Abdul Aziz bin Othman Al Twaijri,
Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(ISESCO), for a meeting about the organisation's plans and activities, and Sharjah's
preparations for being the official Capital Of Islamic Culture for 2014. Al
Twaijri described the selection of Sharjah as appropriate, citing it as recognition
of the achievements of Sharjah in recent years.
