Cultural tourism in Russia > Kirov region

Kirov region

It is said that there are few unexplored places left in the world. From this, point of view the Kirov region has à great advantage: our old land with its rich history, unique crafts and nature is of interest not only among Russians, but also among people from other countries.

Vyatka is worthy of its status of à tourists' goldmine. Twelve ancient towns and settlements in the region are of the historical value, among them are Lalsk, Ryabovo and Velikoretskoye. There are 806 government-protected historical and cultural relics and monuments on the territory of our region, and 192 of them — of federal importance. We are proud of our world-famous fellow-townsmen; among them are the artists Ivan Shishkin and brothers Viktor and Appolinariy Vasnetsovs, the composer Peter Tchaikovsky and the writer Alexander Grin.

Such folk art crafts as lace-making and osier-weaving, producing articles of excrescences on the roots of leaf-bearing trees and straw are still existing and flourishing in our land.

It is possible to ånjîó the process of making clay Dymkovo toys. This craft is mîãå than 400 years old.

188 nature monuments are situated on the territory îf the Kirov region. Well-known are the nature reserves "Nurgush", "Pizhemsky" and "Bylina" with dozens of ràrå species of wildlife.

Another attraction of the Kirov region is à large filed of diggings vertebrata who lived 250 million îf years ago. It is located near the town of Êotålnich.

The tourists coming to the Vyatka land can visit Shaitan Lake (Devil Lake) with its floating islands and water kicks. Mineral waters and peloids, hunting for fur-bearing animals, canoeing, cliff-climbing and excursions to the caves' labyrinths, springboarding and diving tours... The locals have the reason for pride and the places of interest to show.

The development îf tourism is à very promising brunch of the region's economy. We are aimed at creating the most favourable conditions for it; in particular, we are forming the appropriate legal foundation. Tourism should become an effective, profitable sector and à reliable source îf thå budget revenue for the Kirov region. Besides, tourism also presupposes active rest, therefore useful and exiting recreation.

That is why we state our intention to keep supporting the tourism activity in the Kirov region and to assist the realization of the prospective investment projects in this sphere.

Welcome to Vyatka!
