Zosima Alexeyevich Shashkov

land is the homeplace of many famous countrymen, whose names are kept with honor
and pride. Among them is the name of People's Commissar of River Fleet of the
USSR Zosima Alexeyevich Shashkov.
Lots of Dwellers of Kotlas district, the real sons of their Motherland, took
part and perished in this great feat of all Russian people. One of them was
a gifted and legendary personality, People's Commissar, the Minister of River
Fleet and Navy - Zosima Alexeyevich Shashkov. He played a very remarkable role
in organization of military and supplying transportation by river fleet transport.
On the Great Victory days, the 65 th anniversary of victory over fascist Germany,
people marked 105 th birthday anniversary of Z.A. Shashkov.
He used to work on different jobs: from an ordinary riverman till the boss
of ships supervision in the period since 1918 till 1929.
After graduation from Leningrad water transport institute he was involved into
scientific activities.
in February of 1938 he was appointed on the post of the deputy minister of
water transportation, in 1946 he became the Minister of River Fleet of the USSR,
and In 1953 he worked as the Minister of Sea and River Fleet and at last as
the Minister of River Fleets of the USSR and of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist
Republic.
Z.A. Shashkov died in 1984 and was buried at Novodevichye Cemetery in Moscow.
