Parks of Moscow
In daily use it is simply called «The Gorky Park», and this name is famous
not only in our country, but also worldwide, since its inception in 1928,
Gorky Park went through different times. Beginning in the 90s of the last
century, changing economic and political system necessitated changes for
the park as well. Paid entry was introduced for the first time, and various
summer cafes offering shashliks and similar fast-food appeared as if from
nowhere, and the old rides, so beloved in the past, were abandoned. |
Everyone knows that the Russian Tsars lived in the Kremlin, but they
also had their own estates outside the city. They tried to surround their
residences with all possible splendor to duly impress foreign envoys.
Since then, Moscow has increased significantly, and these «suburban» lands
have long since become part of the city territory, some of them even being
removed from its borders. Not much has remained from the old buildings,
but even from the remnants which may be seen now, the visitors can recreate
the lifestyle, daily routines and even the mood of Russian rulers. |
People who consider Moscow to be a «concrete jungle» will be really surprised
to know that «green» areas take over one third of the Moscow territory. They
include parks fitted out for rest, promenades with children, sports; estates
where interesting museums are situated; nature reserves with ecological trails.
Parks within walking distance loved by locals are situated in every district
of the city.
But Moscow also has special places attracting people from far away: large museum-reserves,
series of palaces and gardens, legendary recreational parks.
In the territory of Moscow there are 118 specially protected natural sites:
landscape protected areas, unique natural and history theme natural parks containing
objects of special cultural, aesthetic and scientific importance.
Total area of such territories is over 16 thousand hectares. Here you can see
the rarest floral and faunal forms, unique natural landscapes.
Main parks:
- The Central Park
of Culture and Recreation named after Gorkiy
- Sokolniki
- Victory park
- «Krasnaya Presnya» Park
It is worth remembering that the green areas in Moscow mean not just some
old estates, silence and solitude, but also modern parks, with attractions,
sports facilities, and entertainment. They are boisterous, fun and punctuated
with constant peals of children's laughter. The total area of parks and recreation
is 1427 hectares! Every year, they are visited by about 15.5 million people.
I The parks of Moscow are well-conditioned, improved areas with a developed
infrastructure, including facilities for disabled people, with a special Moscow
coloring, which both adults and children enjoy to visit and to have a great
time both in summer and in winter.
